Men in Black have a new recruit! National Youth Film Academy member, Shayan Ali joined the crew in September 2018! Find out how he got on below!

Headshot Shayan ali

In Shayan’s Words:

I saw a post on the Official National Youth Film Academy Facebook group about a paid opportunity as a Location Marshal.

It was for a huge feature film being shot in London but I had never worked on a film set before (other than my own projects). I was definitely lacking experience. Nonetheless, I emailed Jenna about my interest and she was super helpful, to the point where she basically got me the job.

I received all the location and time details from the film shoot team in advance which helped massively. On set, everyone was really friendly (even though going in I wasn’t quite sure what a location marshal does), and it was because of this, that my confidence grew and I picked up the role duties very quickly.

The biggest thing for me was that despite it being a massive production, making it very easy to be intimidating, everyone was incredibly professional, friendly and a joy to work with, be it group leaders, the ADs, people from the big studio company etc.

I learnt a lot and loved the experience and now I have an official IMDb credit for a big blockbuster film. I could not have asked for a better first paid job in the film industry!
