National Youth Film Academy member, Gabriela Buchanan, joined the crew working on Season 2′ of Amazon Prime Video’s, Jack Ryan as a Location Marshal!
We caught up with Gabriela to find out about her experiences.
Gabriela, what was your role on set and what did it entail?
I was a Location Marshal on the set of Amazon Prime Video’s Jack Ryan (Season 2) where I locked off a restaurant for health and safety reasons, kept the public out of shot whilst a drone was released in Westminster for the first time and, communicated through a walkie-talkie becoming familiar with film lingo.
We shot in Leicester Square for the duration of the day. Leicester Square was very surreal at 6 am! I no longer regard Leicester Square as London landmark. It will always be a buzzing film set to me. Early starts are great for gripping you into that ‘other-worldy’ feel of a film set. That was enough to get me going – no need for coffee!
How did you get the job?
I got the job through Jenna Shaw (talent executive) – After seeing it advertised on the members Facebook page I sent my CV over, was in contact with the hiring manager within half an hour and was booked onto the job that same morning. This was my first experience on set a high-budget production – thanks, Jenna!
Gabriela on the National Youth Film Academy!
I attended the National Youth Film Academy’s summer #SetReady 2018 course and my role was co-director alongside Ella Johnston (shout-out!). Upon completion of #SetReady course, I became a member of the National Youth Film Academy. Jenna Shaw (Talent Manager) has been very supportive in finding job opportunities for members, including ones that benefit film graduates. I’m keeping my eyes open for opportunities at Ealing Studios which is local to me.
